About Us & Usability
Usability testing doesn't need to be expensive. It can be, and sometimes for good reason if companies are looking for detailed studies of sites across different languages and other variables. However in the majority of cases this is not the case – and so we are here to help.
We're based in the UK, part of the CrowdView Group, www.crowdview.co.uk.
We consider ourselves to be innovative in offering a low cost Usability Testing service that allows testing & feedback from consumers & reviews from Usability experts all at the same time. We're flexible you decide how many consumers you want to test you site, and how many experts you would like to receive a review from.
If you've got any questions email me personally at ben@crowdview.co.uk or call us on +44(0)7500 333 666.
What is
Usability Testing?
Here's the Wikipedia page on Usability Testing. We're pretty confident that the combined knowledge of the Wikipedia Community is better than ours but here are some of the parts you need to know:
Usability testing is a black-box testing technique. The aim is to observe people using the product to discover errors and areas of improvement.
Simply gathering opinions on an object or document is market research rather than usability testing. Usability testing usually involves systematic observation under controlled conditions to determine how well people can use the product.
Jakob Nielsen, a or possibly the Usability Guru, wrote in the 1990's "Elaborate usability tests are a waste of resources. The best results come from testing no more than 5 users and running as many small tests as you can afford". His suggestion was that 5 users were enough to determine results from your Usability testing. More recent research using mathematical models and empirical testing has suggested that a larger sample than 5 is usually required to detect a satisfactory amount of issues. We would suggest utilising either 5 or 10 Testers for each project depending on your aims.
